Teaching Experience

Marching Band Instructor at BHSN: 2015 Season

Served as low brass instructor for Bloomington High School North’s marching band. Coached sectionals, gave marching instruction, and developed visual/musical aspects of show design with other directors.

Adjunct Music Faculty at Olney Central College: 2018-Present

Private lesson instructor (via Skype) at Olney Central College in Olney, Illinois. Chris makes frequent visits to the campus to guest instruct music theory, music history, and small/large ensembles.

Brass Instructor at Star of Indiana Band Program: 2015-2016

Taught full brass sectionals as part of 5th-6th grade band program in Bloomington, Indiana. Involved teaching absolute beginners how to make their first sounds on their instrument, giving group instruction to full brass section, and teaching individuals how to play in a chamber setting.

Private Lesson Instructor: 2013-Present

Teaching privately (including skype), Chris averages 10 students weekly of widely varying levels on several different instruments.

Jazz Education Network (JEN) JJF Board: 2015-Present

Chris coordinates and directs the nightly student jam sessions at JEN conferences and is a member of the JENerations Jazz Festival Committee.

Indiana Schools Music Clinician

Chris has given clinics at multiple Indiana secondary schools working with jazz bands, concert bands, small ensembles, and private students. He also works with the “Jazz in the Schools” program in Indiana, where he travels with a jazz group to several schools presenting a program about improvisation and the history of jazz in Indiana.

Vice President at B-Town Jazz: 2016-2018

Chris Organized the Taste of Bloomington Jazz Stage (2015-2018), has organized numerous student jam sessions, and serves on the B-Town Jazz Fest executive committee.

Staff at Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops: 2016-present

After attending the camps for 7 years as a student, Chris was hired onto the staff in 2016 and has worked every year since. At the 2019 camps, he directed his own combo.

Academic Background

Bloomington High School North: 2011-2015
Attended high school at BHSN in Bloomington, IN. Participated in several All State Concert/Jazz Bands, all ensembles offered within the band department, choir, and was the drum major of the marching band for two years. His senior year, Chris directed the pit orchestra for the school musical. Graduated with Core40 Diploma with Academic Honors.

Indiana University Jacobs School of Music: 2015-2016
Jazz Studies/Music Education Major. Performed as a euphonium soloist, on drum set with the Pat Harbison Jazz Ensemble and the John Fedchock/Mike Holober Jazz Ensemble, on trombone with the IU Marching Hundred, and on drum set with the Men’s Big Red Basketball Band and Crabb Band.
